The Tasmanian Government is still playing games by asking Jenny Gale, the Secretary of Premier and Cabinet, to write to its employees - and it’s an insult to treat people as if they don’t understand what their employer is up to.

The Tasmanian Government is still playing games by asking Jenny Gale, the Secretary of Premier and Cabinet, to write to its employees - and it’s an insult to treat people as if they don’t understand what their employer is up to.

The email sent today, May 24, says it's recommenced public sector wage agreement negotiations but this isn't quite true - there have been meetings, but no negotiating.

Government reps who come to the meetings tell us they can't actually negotiate anything other than the outcome that was offered last time, the one you all overwhelmingly rejected, so the offer is still 2%, 2.5% and 2.5% ONLY only if you trade-off many entitlements such as public holidays.

We've now been to more than 30 of these so-called negotiation meetings and it's such a waste of time, which is why we've asked to meet with the Premier - we need to sit down with a decision maker not someone who has no authority to negotiate - after all, it was the Premier who in January called us to a meeting stating he wanted to resolve this ongoing dispute.

Despite all of these wasted meetings we've continued to meet in the hope the position will change because we want resolution, we want a fair outcome, and we know workers want a fair outcome that doesn’t require giving up hard-fought terms and conditions.

We'll be holding membership meetings across Tasmania through June to discuss the next steps of the “Tasmanians Need a Pay Rise” campaign and what options are available to us and, in the meantime, we'll continue with industrial action to achieve a fair deal for Tasmania's d.
