You are entitled to them

We’ve had a few questions lately about meal breaks, and it seems that some workers are unable to get their breaks due to heavy workloads.

We’ve written to Healthscope management to tell them that if you don’t get a break, you need to be paid at time and a half of your pay rate otherwise they are in breach of both the nursing and non-nursing agreements.

Your entire shift can be quite difficult when you have to wear a mask or full PPE, especially in hot weather, and staying hydrated is critical to your health and safety, so it’s very important that you get access to your breaks and drink plenty of water.

If you are unable to have your breaks, then make sure you are compensated for it.
