The disrespect is astounding!

The level of disrespect shown by the Tasmanian Government to its own employees is astounding!

The way this government treats its workers is disgusting.

It made a formal offer to unions last night to settle public sector workers' wage claim... by telling the media... not by having the courtesy to give unions a phone call, let alone present the offer in person to workers' representatives and delegates.

Aside from the staggering lack of respect, the government can't seem to work with a calendar because it says its offer expires on the 9th of December but, as everyone knows, union members have meetings planned across the state from Monday the 10th until Wednesday the 12th of December, which will be the first chance we'll have to put the government’s new offer to you.

Yet the government has deliberately picked Saturday the 9th of December as the day its offer expires, but surely this must be just a coincidence.

Maybe it'll change its view on this deadline, but whatever happens we'll be discussing it at our meetings.

Everyone in the public sector should read this because if you're one of those caught up in separate negotiations, such as nurses, allied health, ambulance, radiation therapy or dental it's certain the same silliness is on its way to you soon.

Anyway, there is a range of conditions the government's prepared to move on, but its position on a 2% per year wage increase stubbornly remains the same, even though we've made our position crystal clear - Tasmanians need a pay rise - and we just can't continue down the line of real wage cuts and hope to recruit and retain staff.

The wage offer is nothing but insulting and disrespectful.

It'll be good to hold meetings over the next couple of weeks and talk some more about the level of contempt this government has for its workforce and how we're going to change that - we'll keep you updated.
