Questions about pay rates and levels

Some staff have contacted us to raise the following concerns about inconsistency with workers’ pay rates and levels at Leap.

  • It seems that workers who have been at Leap for some time may be on a lower pay rate/level than workers who have just entered the workforce and often start without experience or relevant qualifications.
  • Leap has encouraged workers to gain better qualifications. Some staff have done that, but it appears this doesn’t make any difference to what they are paid.
  • Some workers are asked to perform higher duties similar to what Team Leaders do, but their pay rates are not adjusted accordingly.

We wrote to Paul recently to raise the issues and he has replied:

"We certainly want to ensure that we are contracting our employees correctly against the SCHADS award. We would also like to confirm we are more than happy to review each case as they arise from our employees. We will also ensure any response is provided to them in writing. To enable us time to review our current employees, we ask that you allow us some time in the new year to conduct an extensive review, with an outcome delivered to our impacted employees (as required only) by mid to late January.

Our intention would be to review current classifications and start dates against the role each and the training/qualifications of an employee. In terms of higher duties, we would ask that individual employees come forward so we can review their circumstances on a case by case basis, with individual responses delivered."

So, if you think you are being paid incorrectly or are performing high duties, you can go to management directly outlining your particular circumstances. If you’re not satisfied with their answers, please give HACSUassist a call to chat about it.
