In addition to the devastating loss of life and property, the bushfire crisis has caused disruption to work, closures to workplaces, loss of income and severe health and safety risks across Australia – in our regions and in our cities - and union members have been on the front line fighting fires, saving lives, rescuing, caring, supporting and connecting essential services.
The government’s $40 a day Disaster Recovery Allowance is wholly inadequate and unions are campaigning to have this increased.
The ACTU Bushfire Relief Fund has been set up so union members can help members who've lost their job or income, who are in bushfire affected areas, and are experiencing severe hardship because of the fires.
Donations have been received from union members who want to show their solidarity to fellow members at their time of crisis, as well as from unions from around the world, and you can help by clicking here to donate now - at times like this it's the compassion, hard work and solidarity expressed by everyday people that will bring us through this ongoing fire crisis.
