HACSU, along with United Voice, were successful in securing a commitment from Labor to implement a Portable Long Service Leave scheme within the first year of an elected Labor government.
The scheme will cover workers in community and disability services, aged care, security and cleaning and will mean that employees will continue to accrue entitlements when they change from one employer to another.
HACSU Assistant State Secretary Robbie Moore and United Voice Branch Secretary Jannette Armstrong moved the motion recommitting the Labor Party to the scheme and to its implementation within the first 12 months of Government.
This is an exciting and important development in the joint union campaign for this much-needed scheme. It follows on from a successful forum held in Hobart in late June, where workers were joined by employer representatives and political representatives.
The focus is now getting other Political Parties and State Election Candidates to make the same commitment.
