Today we met with negotiators from DECYP to continue talks on getting you a new agreement.

Despite workers crying out to the government for a real fix to their workloads and a fair allowance to deal with the recruitment and retention issues that continue to plague child safety, it still seems like they’re not listening.

We’ve told the government in no uncertain terms that an agreement that doesn’t fix caseloads or recruitment and retention across the board is not worth having.

We’re also concerned that there’s proposed training and development pathways that need ironing out – because some of them are based on courses that aren’t even offered in Tasmania.

There are some positives in their proposal, but you need a lot more detail before you agree to anything – and the government have already told us that there’s “not much more” they can give us.

We talked to a lot of you this week who said the biggest flaw is the fact that there’s nothing in this proposal that gives you the right to refuse excessive workloads. Aside from this, the model the government is trying to roll out also only works if there’s no unallocated cases – which we know is very far off the situation you’re in now.

We’ll be holding stop-work BBQs in the north and south, with further action to come in the north west, so please make sure you keep your eye out for updates from us soon.

It’s time for us to take matters into our own hands and make sure that the government finally fixes the important issues – not just for you, but for our young people and their families.
