We have received some alarming reports of contractors burning acetone, chemicals and other construction materials outside the Mersey Hospital stores and pharmacy area.

We visited on Friday to speak to workers and inspect the site.

Whilst the worst of the smell has mostly abated, we still understand some workers were particularly affected Thursday, with one worker having to leave early.

This is clearly a safety issue and we’re seeking further information from Health about how this was allowed to occur and exactly why contractors are burning waste in the open.
