We'll be forced to take further industrial action if management don't find a heart

After we started industrial action in Food Services earlier this week, we spoke to Jason and others yesterday and at that meeting management agreed to increase some workers’ rostered hours. While it’s a good first step, we are pursuing fairness for everyone and we did challenge them as to how they came to the conclusion that some workers would get an increase and others wouldn’t.

There’s no doubt that your action getting the word out to patients, the community and media has already made a real difference. We’ve proven that when we’re united in fighting back against management, we can make real change.

We’re meeting with management again soon to look at individual rosters and keep working to get a fair deal for everyone – but if management still won’t play ball then we’ll be forced to take further action until it’s fair for all workers.

Whilst we know some will be happy with the increase (and we’re glad that there have been good outcomes for some so far) we are still pushing to make sure management gives everyone what they deserve – or at the very least, what they need.

We’ve been catching up with you weekly so that we can keep you up to date with what’s going on, but also because it gives you a chance to ask us anything and let us know of any other issues that come up.

I’ll be coming in again over the next few weeks to give you updates and talk about the next steps. The meeting times are:

• 2.30pm on Tuesday 4 April in the Lecture Theatre Foyer

• 2.30pm on Thursday 13 April in Meeting Room Level 3

• 2.30pm on Tuesday 18 April in Meeting Room Level 3
