You're under no obligation to sign their dodgy dig

Baptcare Karingal have been forced to revise an unlawful declaration they sent out about ‘secondary employment’ to workers recently – but even what’s left of their revised declaration is still inappropriate and inflammatory.

What Baptcare don’t seem to get is that they cannot regulate your personal life – including if you need to have another job to make a living.

You’ve told us that they’re even going as far as to say that you have to report to them when you’re rostered at other jobs and mandating rest periods between your shifts.

Your employer throwing the term ‘conflict of interest around’ is merely an act to intimidate you – because unless in your secondary employment you gain a personal or financial benefit to the detriment of Baptcare, you are not required to declare secondary employment as a conflict of interest.

A conflict of interest is an extreme term, and a legitimate example would be something like setting up a competing business or engaging with a business that has competing values.

A conflict of interest is not that you’re so undervalued that you need two jobs to survive.

We’ve told Baptcare that secondary employment does not in itself constitute a conflict of interest, and that you’re under no obligation to sign their dodgy secondary employment declaration – because they have no say in how you live your private life before work.
