Recently, we got in touch with management after members told us that support workers at Curraghmore are being expected to complete excessive amounts of cleaning – which should’ve been done by a professional cleaner.

We told management that workers are not averse to a small amount of cleaning as per their position description, but that a professional cleaner should be called in if moving heavy furniture to scrub walls, carpets, clean windows or light fittings is needed.

Not only are these tasks not in workers’ job descriptions, but in most cases, they’re also an accident waiting to happen!

Brady Rayner has since told us that the tasks were in relation to the vacant room tasks and that they “are currently evaluating options for the vacant room (’heavy duty’) cleaning tasks to be completed by sub-contractors or professional cleaners”.

Brady also a let us know that:

“Moving forward the expectation will be that Curraghmore Support Workers complete cleaning duties as per their position description and classification descriptor which includes the lighter cleaning tasks contained in the Shift Duties List.”

Well done to the workers who spoke up about this issue – not only have you made sure that heavy duty cleaning tasks are performed by trained professionals, but you’ve put a stop to a potential work health and safety risk.
