Meercroft: Still no news on RN retention bonus

Here's what we do know

For RNs, the announcement last year that the Australian Government had decided to give aged care registered nurses a payment to reward clinical skills and leadership (to those that have worked for the same aged care employer for 6 or 12 months) was welcome news.

But that was last year.

As you might know, employers were responsible for applying for this grant on behalf of eligible RNs and for passing on the full payment ASAP after receiving it.

I checked in with Wendy recently to make sure Meercroft applied for those RNs that were eligible and to see if Meercroft had heard any further news on where the payment was at. Wendy has advised us that Meercroft “did apply last year but heard nothing as yet.”

She also let us know that Meercroft followed up on the payment with the Deputy Minister for Health and Aged Care yesterday when she visited the facility. Wendy says the Minister is “going to find out when it will be paid” and she will let us know if she hears anything about this.

We’ll keep you updated once we hear that Meercroft have received the grant from the government to pay to their eligible RNs, and we’ll make sure we stay on top of them about this issue in the meantime.
