We've organised meetings to hear from you

Last week we sent you the final offer from the government.

You can find the email in your inbox if you haven't read it already.

As we’ve reported to you all through negotiations, we did have positive discussions with the government in a lot of areas – but without the government taking real and substantive action to protect you from dispatch or continuous work, we know that your right to be fed and have a break will continue to be usurped by the constant pressure for ambulance resources.

The government’s current – and “final” – meal break offer increases the meal break window from 2.5 hours to 3 hours, which would mean that your meal break could be even later than it is now.

If you accept it, this offer would also see you paid a maximum of two meal allowances and a half hour of overtime, irrespective of how long you go without a break. The government’s proposal also allows you to be directed to take your break in a hospital staff room.

They’ve also laid down an ultimatum: take this offer now, or they will only give you a pay rise from the time you relent and accept what they’re offering and not from when it was due.

We have organised meetings across the state next week to discuss this offer and get your views on it, so we need you to come and have your say. Here are the times:

• Tuesday 17 January

o Devonport Station at 8.30am

o Burnie Station at 5.30pm

• Wednesday 18 January – Launceston Station at 5.30pm

• Thursday 19 January – Hobart Station at 5.30pm
