The government refuses to acknowledge your safety

You may be aware that we received the “final” offer for your replacement agreement late last week.

The main issue is still a lack of agreement from the government on meal breaks. This latest offer does nothing to change the current system that regularly, and unfairly, sees people work far longer than is safe without a break – or sometimes without a break at all.

Despite our insistence on breaks, the government still refuses to consider how important they are for you and your safety.

We need to continue to highlight to the community the unbearable pressure the government puts you under day after day and come up with a plan to get some much-needed relief. Your AESB Executive will meet tomorrow to formulate some ideas that we’ll need to talk to you about.

Meetings will occur across the state, and members will also have an opportunity to catch up in a friendly environment afterwards. We’ll have more details to you before then, but the meetings are:

• Tuesday 17 January - Devonport Station at 8.30am, Burnie Station at 5.30pm

• Wednesday 18 January – Launceston Station at 5.30pm

• Thursday 19 January – Hobart Station at 5.30pm

We also have a limited number of HACSU t-shirts left to distribute, with more ordered and on the way. We’ll be out at workplaces and on the ramp over the next week visiting you, too. If you’ve got a photo in your t-shirt or of your vehicle to share, email it to photos@hacsu.org.au so we can continue to show the community our unity.
