What Calvary are proposing...

We’ve met with Calvary and given them member's feedback. Whilst we explained that workers are disappointed by their response to the log of claims and all of the issues we want to see addressed, they’ve simply come back and said they don’t want to budge.

These are the most concerning things that Calvary are proposing:

  • Changes to how overtime will be paid (we’re seeking further clarification around this)
  • Changes to meal breaks so that there's no limits on time worked without a break for shift workers (however, they are proposing paid tea breaks for day workers)
  • Changes to the definition of full-time staff to be 38 hours. (If staff are currently classified as full-time and work 37.5 hours, that would mean they would either need to pick up an additional half hour or be classified as part-time.)
  • Formal introduction of split/broken shifts
  • An attempt to broaden the location of work to include “community and residential care locations”
  • Addition of mandatory training “ordinary hours” that (regardless of your pattern of work) will not see you paid overtime unless workers do more than 10 hours of training and will also reduce the minimum payment from two hours to one hour

On top of this, Calvary have also put forward a proposal for a new classification structure that would change descriptors and levels. We’re still seeking clarity around where current employees will be placed on the new structure. We’re meeting with them again on Friday 18 November. If you want to join the bargaining team or have any questions, send us an email or give us a call.
