You forced them to come to the table with a better deal

Calvary’s agreement has been voted up without 6 months of backpay – and although some will be disappointed with the outcome of the vote, you and your colleagues can hold your heads high.

Through your actions, and because you stood together, you forced Calvary to give you a better deal. That’s absolutely something you should celebrate.

Because you were willing to make a stand, low paid workers will get more of a pay rise – either $50 per week or a 3% wage bump (whichever is greater). Because of this, most workers will see an increase of 4–5% instead of the 2.5% Calvary originally offered.

You also protected your right to penalty rates when doing training (which management didn’t want to pay you for) and you’ve won the right to take up to 20 days’ paid Family and Domestic Violence Leave if you ever need it.

Workers in CSD and Theatre will now get proper recognition for the certificates they’re required to hold so that they’re paid properly for the work they’re doing.

On top of this, there are now more pay-points for operational workers to better recognise valuable and essential skills.

The agreement will be sent off to the Fair Work Commission for approval where we’ll be keeping an eye on the process to make sure it’s all above board.

If you have any issues once the agreement takes effect or if you believe Calvary aren’t sticking to the terms, call us via HACSUassist and let us know.

Congratulations on standing up, fighting for a fair deal, and making your voice heard. We’ll be standing with you to keep your employer honest.
