Here's what you need to know

We’ve heard from some of you recently that when you show up to work, you’re often told that you need to drive to another clinic. That’s fine, but what’s not is that your employer has told some workers they’re not eligible for a travel allowance.

This is incorrect.

Your award says that when your employer requires you to use your own motor vehicle in the course of your duties on shift, you must be paid an allowance of at least $0.96 per kilometre.

We’ve now written to Radiology Tasmania to make sure they’re paying you in line with their award obligations.

Our advice is that from now on, you keep a logbook and jot down how many kilometres you’ve driven between sites. You should then give this information to your employer so that you can be remunerated correctly.

If you have any questions about your travel allowance, please get in touch with us on 1300 880 032 or via email at assist@hacsu.org.au, so that we can follow up and make sure you’re being paid what you’re entitled to.
