Healthscope: you wouldn't let a fox watch your chickens

Don't trust their Comcare scheme

You would’ve received notification from Healthscope’s CEO that they’re looking to apply for a license to self-insure their own workers compensation under the Comcare scheme.

You wouldn’t let a fox watch your chickens, so why would you let Healthscope manage your workers compensation?

When the letter was sent out Healthscope said they’d be happy to meet with us and talk, but after responding to them over a week ago they’re still dragging their heels on a meeting time.

This is very disappointing, especially because this is a major change that will have a huge impact on workers. What they’re not telling you is that under the Comcare scheme, you would have to prove that the company has a liability for your injury before you can receive workers compensation payments.

Under the current Tasmanian scheme, the onus is actually on the company to argue that they don’t have a responsibility for your injury. This change would put the onus on you. Whilst a change may not seem big, it will mean you’d be without compensation payments and support for medical expenses and be made to utilise your own entitlements whilst fighting to receive payment from the insurer.

Your employer is trying to sell you a lemon – and they don’t want you to realise what they’re trying to do. They’re only interested in lining the pockets of the investors that own Healthscope and getting a kick back for doing so.
