AYDC workers: we need to hear from you

We’re about a month away from the Commission of Inquiry reporting to the government and the report being released more widely.

We know that this is not going to do anything to make your days working at Ashley any easier, and they’re already difficult enough.

The numbers of young people and constant staffing issues are still causing significant and ongoing challenges, and we still have very scant detail on where we’re at with the much-heralded reform of youth justice.

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: please don’t put yourself in a risky situation if you can help it, particularly when there are fewer workers than required on site.

We know you truly care about the young people who find themselves at Ashley, but it’s not worth the risk to your safety or theirs.

We need to have a chat about what’s going on with additional supports for workers – particularly in the next few months looking at the wider youth justice reform and whether we’re ever going to start hearing from the government about the transition to new facilities.

We'll be at the AYDC soon - so please make sure you come find along to our meeting so we can hear from you.
