It's time to recognise the important work you do

Today we met with the State Service Management Office and with representatives from both the Departments of Health and Education and Children and Young People to start talks about the Health Service Officer (HSO) classifications in the award.

You might remember that as part of the Public Sector Union Wages Agreement, the Government committed to us that they’d review the classification structures applicable to workers employed in the HSO stream.

The fact is that it takes more knowledge and skills by Allied Health Assistants, CSSD Technicians, Perioperative Technicians, Theatre Support Officers and Child Safety/Youth Justice Support Workers and the point of this project is to recognise this.

The HSO stream is archaic, unfit for purpose and sets 15 pay increments that are all captured by general stream Band 1 and 2.

The Departments both agreed they’ll give us a breakdown of which workers sit where in the pay points and how many of you will be affected by the review.

We’ll be in touch with you soon if that’s you so we can get started on some initial design work around a revised statement of duties for you that better reflects the important work you do.

The next meeting of the HSO review group will be in the first week of August and we’ll keep you updated with how it goes.
