The Department have decided to backpedal on outsourcing at Roy Fagan after HACSU members spoke up and raised concerns.

Because of union members’ actions, the Department have agreed to do a full review of the services that are needed and create permanent positions so these public mental health services will be provided by public sector workers.

We’ve come a long way from the Department spinning their old line about Mental Health Services having no choice but to move to outsourcing because they couldn’t get support for public positions.

This is a big win for workers in public mental health! It proves you can make a real difference when you stand up against bad decisions – like outsourcing. We all know how important it is to keep public health jobs where they belong: in public hands, and away from mainland money-grubbing private corporations.

We’ve also told the Department that they need to continue looking at new ways to retain the staff they have so that you can deliver vital services, and attract new staff as well.
