Your action made change

After weeks of stalling and very few details about where negotiations were headed for nurses and midwives, we met with the government yesterday afternoon to continue discussions for your replacement agreement.

The government have made a revised offer for wages which is measurably better than the last one and we’re keen to see the whole offer.

Make no mistake, this is a win for union members! It is your resolve and willingness to take industrial action that has made the government negotiators sharpen their pencils and make a revised offer.

The government have told us that their wage offer aims for parity with the national average, but that’s not an easy number to calculate accurately – and we’ll need some more time run our own numbers to make sure you’ll be paid what you deserve.

We’ll be having meetings around the state next in the next few weeks so we can hear what you have to say, but in the meantime, we’ll wait for the revised offer in full and get you the breakdown and all the details you need.

There’s also still some other non-agreement matters we’d like to sort out like consolidating awards and agreements and other behind-the-scenes administrative jobs. We’ll keep the pressure on to make sure the government deals with those issues too.

It’s really important that you keep your eyes out for more details and come along to a meeting so we can talk together about what our next steps will be.
