CSSD: mandatory training has to be provided

No ifs, buts or maybes

We’ve had reports from workers that you have been asked to pay for your own training, training that is mandated by the Department to fulfil your job responsibilities.

That’s not on. It is unjust for any worker to dip into their own pockets to benefit their employer.

Let us be unequivocally clear: When you’re required by your employer to undertake training, your employer is obligated to cover all costs of the training, and you should complete the training during your work hours. In simple terms, the training for CSSD is mandatory, and they must cover the expenses.

We have asked the Department to explain when and by whom the lousy decision was made. We are also pressing for a timeline on when HACSU can be consulted on this wholly unacceptable situation for workers.

We’ll update you as soon as we hear from the Department. In the meantime, you should tell your direct supervisor that you won’t be paying for the training, and if you already have, you should request reimbursement immediately.
