Industrial action over a broken promise

It's time for medical orderlies and attendants to stand up

We’ve once again told the Department that you will be taking industrial action immediately in response to the Department’s failure to honour their commitment to you.

Health had already confirmed that they will recognise your specialised skills and responsibilities with an allowance and a reclassification of your role – but despite that commitment and your show of good faith, the Department has failed to pay the allowance.

We still have hope that they’ll use common sense and do the right thing, but we need to plan for action in case they don’t.

At membership meetings across the state, HACSU attendants have endorsed the commencement of action.

From 7am on Friday 8 September these are the following bans we’ve put in place:

• NWRH – A ban on the transfer of patients to and from the North West Private Hospital, a ban on afterhours plasters, a ban on running pathology related items, a ban on collection of patient belongings from main reception and a ban on transfer of drugs or patient records between wards/units

• LGH – A ban on responding to calls from the front desk and a ban on the transfer of patients to and from the Northern Integrated Care Centre

• RHH – A ban on transfer of patients to and from the Hobart Private Hospital (HPH) and a ban on the collection and disposal of placentas from the HPH

We’ll keep you up to date if anything changes, but at the moment we’re hoping for the best and planning for the worst.

If you need more information in the meantime, please contact us on HACSUassist.
