Our children and young people deserve better

As you might’ve heard, we’ve been putting our heads together with workers in the north west at Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) to try and fix the ongoing and chronic staffing crisis for a while now.

For over two years, workers have been speaking up about this problem – especially with the increased demand for services. Yet the Department have failed time and time again, using the same old “recruitment strategies” that continue to see us haemorrhage workers.

The result is that families and young people who need support are not receiving it – and the workers left behind are forced to work in a service that is unable to cope.

HACSU members at CAMHS have told us that the time for talk is over – because the Department just aren’t listening. Now, it’s time we all got together and made a plan about some actions we can take to highlight the seriousness of the issue and force the government to act.

We'll be holding member meetings with you soon to plan for action. It’s important that everyone who cares about the CAMHS, and the state of our mental health services, gets along to the meeting if they can – because we know this affects all of us.
