Your entitlements will be protected

We just wanted to give you an update on the transfer of the kitchen from CaterCare back to Baptcare.

You may remember that we met with the Fair Work Commission in early February to discuss this issue. Since then, we’ve had continuous discussions with CaterCare and Baptcare to try to sort out the mess that was created when the bosses of both parties rushed through a deal without thinking about your rights.

We’ve strongly argued that workers should not be left holding the bag when employers make hasty decisions and that your entitlements should never be a secondary consideration.

Due to these discussions, we’ve managed to ensure that workers won’t lose entitlements during the transfer of business between CaterCare and Baptcare. This means your entitlements accrued with CaterCare will be recognised by Baptcare, including:

• Personal leave

• Long Service Leave

• Access to parental leave

• Unfair dismissal entitlements

We are still talking to CaterCare to make sure that end-of-employment entitlements have been correctly paid to workers.

Whilst this is a great win for those who worked in the kitchen, we’re still concerned about the workload that has been shifted onto other workers on the floor at Karingal. We’ll keep pushing for a fair solution for everyone.
