At a recent meeting we asked your employer a pretty simple question about their commitment to implementing the 15% aged care award rise if their newest agreement gets up. Instead of answering, they resorted to weasel words and personal attacks. That’s part of why we’re urging you vote NO to UAW’s dodgy deal.

The new 15% increases to aged care award rates are thanks to HACSU’s national Fair Work Aged Care Wage Value Case. That means many aged care workers will get a pay rise from 30 June – but only if UAW workers keep the current agreement and vote NO.

Because our Fair Work case is ongoing, we are still battling to get Fair Work to mandate a total 25% award rise to all workers in aged care, because every worker is worth it.

It's alarming that UAW want to try to weasel their way out this pay rise for the workers who should get it, especially since they’re legally mandated to implement the 15% award increase anyway.

But aside from their recklessness with the law, it’s also flat-out disappointing that they don’t think you’re worth it – we know how hard you’ve worked for your residents day in and day out.

Voting on UAW’s proposal opens Wednesday 22 March and goes until Wednesday 29 March, so make sure you vote NO to keep your current entitlements and receive the Fair Work pay rise in June if you’re eligible for it.

We’ll be continuing the fight for better wages and conditions in your workplace agreement on top of this 15% because we don’t think you should be badgered into accepting anything less – and we know not everyone is getting the award increase at this stage.
