If you're still concerned, get in touch

Back in October, we had a discussion with management about concerns over the kitchen tasks that ECAs are asked to do, particularly around the evening meal.

We said although care workers know helping residents at mealtimes is part of their role, there seem to be more and more kitchen-type tasks placed on ECAs, which takes time away from their usual caring duties.

We asked how OneCare expects ECAs to perform tasks like setting up tables in the dining room and preparing trays for residents dining in their rooms. Your Hospitality Services Manager Ben said he would review current duties and meet with staff to discuss expectations for the tasks at mealtimes.

After following up with Ben, he has replied with the following:

We have reviewed the process at meal times and put in for meal trollies for in room meals and assists, and discussed with catering staff their responsibilities on how this will work once the trollies arrive.

This will alleviate the pressure from the in-room meals.

Care staff do not have to set tables and the process of handing out cutlery with meals is still the process.

Service and assistance to residents in any way at meal times is still number one priority for all care and catering staff.

Whether you’re a care worker or a food service worker, if you are concerned with the duties you are required to perform at mealtimes, contact Ben directly to let him know your issues. If you feel you are still not being heard, please call HACSUassist on 1300 880 032 to get more support.
