It's time to stand up and fight

After our meeting with your HACSU delegates and activists on Thursday we’ve decided to make an application to the Fair Work Commission to get the process started for a protected industrial action ballot.

Your Melbourne and Sydney based management are still trying to cut your conditions and give you a low-ball wage offer – and it’s just not on. It’s like they’re oblivious to the cost-of-living crisis affecting you right now in Tasmania.

You’ve now voted three times against cuts to breaks and they’re still trying to sell it to you as a positive. It’s the same divisive tactics they used when they implemented breaks for some workers and not others. Now is the time for us to stand up together and make them listen.

We’ve won meal breaks and entitlements back for HACSU members at Southern Cross Care when management tried the same slash and burn tactics, and now we’re fighting to win them back for everyone at UAW too. We’ve fought it before, and we can fight it again.

It’s important to make sure your details are up to date with us so you can access the industrial action ballot and have your say. It’s also a good time to start thinking about what kind of actions you might like to take part in when we move towards industrial action and let your delegate know ASAP if you’ve got any ideas.

If you know any colleagues who haven’t joined up with HACSU yet, make sure you let them know that it pays to be HACSU – we’re the largest aged care union in Tasmania and we’re fighting for workers. Only union members will be able to take part in any action, so now is the time to join.
