Don't go to any meetings to discuss your meal breaks or contracts

We understand that many UAW workers will be invited to a meeting in the coming days to discuss meal breaks or an allowance that you may get for your meal breaks. (This will only affect workers who receive a paid meal break.)

We advise you not to meet with anyone from UAW management to discuss meal breaks or your contract.

Although the new agreement at UAW has no provision for paid meal breaks, some workers are still entitled to paid breaks due to a grandfathering arrangement. We think that UAW will likely do all they can to try and convince you to give away your paid meal break.

We know that paid meal breaks protect residents in aged care and are simply best practice for employers. UAW simply ignored this during the negotiations for the most recent agreement.

We have asked UAW to give us information about the meetings and a copy of your contract before any meeting happens.

Do not agree to anything and do not sign anything until you talk to your union.

We can support you and provide you proper advice about your rights.
