After extensive consultations with employees, residents, regulatory bodies, family members and HACSU, our resolute stance against SCC’s proposal to cut leisure and lifestyle workers has borne fruit. The Board have finally backed down and decided to maintain the Leisure and Lifestyle Officer role at all sites.

SCC claim that the decision “aligns with their commitment to the Global Activity Program, which is a central pillar of their care provision”. However, we all know we cannot achieve this without our collective effort – it is because of all workers sticking together, and the unwavering support from residents, families and communities.

This is a massive win for leisure and lifestyle workers, a resounding end to 10 months of job uncertainty.

We also hope to get similar news about the proposed changes to servery workers in the coming days.

I know you are sick and tired of being served up the burnt sausage time and time again by your employer, and I understand this has been a very stressful time for most workers at SCC residential homes. Finally, it appears that some common sense has surfaced.
