Karingal, we're off to Fair Work for answers

You have the right to proper process

We’ve had reports of chaos of this week at Karingal and it certainly seemed that way when we visited on Tuesday.

Neither Baptcare nor Cater Care have yet given us a straight answer about what’s happening, so we’ve had no choice but to ask the Fair Work Commission to intervene.

While insourcing the services makes sense, the lack of proper information and clear answers mean that it is still unclear what is going on.

Baptcare can just take on all the staff and the current rosters they are doing – and if they want to propose some changes at some point, they should go through a proper consultation process as they are obliged to do, instead of taking advantage of the Christmas break and starting the process on the 23rd of December.

We’ve asked for an urgent Hearing because we know that the cuts to the kitchen mean that more duties have been put on care workers.

It’s a mess and you have the right to a proper and transparent process.

We will keep fighting to protect your entitlements and make sure HACSU members won’t be disadvantaged by this change.

We’ll update you as soon as we hear back from management.
