We’re aware that Devonfield have told workers to no longer do more than 76 hours a fortnight as Devonfield will no longer be paying overtime.

We wrote to Matthew to tell him that several workers have said they’ve never received overtime when doing over 76 hours in the first place and asked him if this was correct.

Here’s Matthew’s response:

Just to clarify the overtime, Devonfield will continue to pay overtime when it is needed and has always paid it. It has been stated that Devonfield cannot continue to pay overtime to people to cover shifts without using every means to cover the shift that is open with a person who will not incur overtime rates. Devonfield will use employees to fill shifts that will not incur the penalty rates where possible. Overtime rates have been paid and will continue to be paid when worked.

We’ve had a look at several members’ payslips and rosters – it appears that Devonfield has been doing the right thing and paying overtime where it is due.

Your current Agreement does state that overtime will not be paid until after 190 hours in a 5-week period, so it would depend on where that 5-week period started and ended as to whether you would be eligible for overtime. This is a bit confusing sometimes.

We also told Matthew that some workers get confused about overtime and other payments because Devonfield payslips are a little complicated.

Matthew then said that Devonfield would look at putting out a” how-to guide for payslips” and that they’ll work with staff directly on resolving their pay enquiries if they contact Devonfield in the first instance.
