We’ve been going back and forth with Neal since April on a few issues you’ve told us about at NWSS, often with no response in return, but finally it looks as though our persistence may have paid off.

We’ve been trying to chase Neal up about these things:

• Getting back pay for you if you’ve been continuously rostered for 8 and a half hours on certain wake shifts (10.30pm until 7am)

• Making sure you’re paid for mandatory training completed online or at home

• Pay errors in the Devonport area and workers’ reimbursements for errors being lost to tax

Finally, Neal got back to us with a blasé response about these things where he told us:

“We have formulated our payment for training policy and will shortly send staff a memo on this. Any back pay in this area will be paid on Thursday 17th.

Any overtime back pay will also be paid on Thursday 17th.

Pay mistakes in Devonport are odd errors and always rectified quickly. If people think that a rectified error has affected their tax, they need to contact us.”

Neal has been light on the details with us, but we can only assume based on his response that back payment will be forthcoming for workers affected by these issues – and we’ll be making sure this is the case.

This is a massive win for workers at NWSS and Neal’s commitment to follow these issues up is proof that persistence can really pay off – sometimes it’s good to be a dog with a bone when it comes to getting answers.
